Board of Supervisors Minutes
March 10, 2009
The Tama County Board of Supervisors met at 9:30 a.m., March 10, 2009.
Present: 1st District Supervisor, Larry Vest; 2nd District Supervisor,
Kendall Jordan and 3rd District Supervisor, Dan Wilkens.
Motion by Jordan, seconded by Wilkens to approve the minutes of the
March 3rd, 2009, regular meeting. All voted aye. Motion carried.
The Board met with Lyle Brehm, Tama County Engineer to get a road
projects report.
Motion by Wilkens, seconded by Jordan to approve the following
resolution to set a public hearing in Grundy County for a road vacation:

RESOLUTION FOR ROAD VACATION PUBLIC HEARING TAMA COUNTY
WHEREAS, a request from the County Engineer has been filed with the Tama
County Board of Supervisors asking that action be taken to vacate and
close a section of Tama County Secondary Road, more specifically a
portion of Tama Road between F Avenue and G Avenue, originally
established on July 10, 1873 (See Road Calendar Book C, page 22) all
lying in Section 1, T86N, R16W of Tama County, Iowa and Section 36,
T87N, R16W of Grundy County, Iowa, and
WHEREAS, the intention of this road closure is to vacate that portion of
the road that is unused and unnecessary for access, and
WHEREAS, interest has been expressed by a landowner to vacate a portion
of the road,
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that a hearing on the proposed vacation will be
held in accordance with Iowa Code Chapter 306. Said meeting shall take
place at 9:00 am on April 13th, 2009 at the Board Room at the Grundy
County Courthouse Grundy Center, IA.
Roll Call Vote: Vest, aye. Jordan, aye. Wilkens, aye. Resolution

At 10:00 the Board held a public hearing to receive comments on the
proposed county budget for Fiscal Year 2009-2010. After hearing comments
from the public, Chairman Vest closed the public hearing at 10:10 a.m.
Motion by Wilkens, seconded by Jordan to
make the total amount of property taxes levied $7,214,723 for the
2009-2010 fiscal year budget and to approve the following resolution:

The Board of Supervisors of Tama County hereby approves and adopts the
2009-2010 fiscal year budget making the total property taxes levied
$7,214,723. The Board further notes that the budget was published in
official newspapers for Tama County and orders the budget to be
certified and filed with/by the Tama County Auditor, as required by law.

At 10:30 the Board canvassed the results of the March 3, 2009 Traer
Special Election. The results are available in the Tama County
Auditor's office.
Motion by Wilkens, seconded by Jordan to approve the following
resolution to participate in the Lead Hazard Control Program with
Marshall and Hardin counties which includes a 28E Agreement with the
City of Marshalltown:

RESOLUTION APPROVING 28E AGREEMENT WITH THE CITY OF MARSHALLTOWN AND
AUTHORIZING PARTICIPATION IN THE LEAD HAZARD CONTROL PROGRAM FUNDED BY
THE U.S. DEPARTMENT OF HOUSING AND URBAN DEVELOPMENT FOR PURPOSE LEAD
HAZARD CONTROL WORK IN MARSHALL, TAMA AND HARDIN COUNTIES
WHEREAS the City of Marshalltown (hereinafter referred to as
the "City"), State of Iowa, is a political subdivision organized and
existing under the law and the Constitution of the State of Iowa (the
"State"); and
WHEREAS the City Housing & Community Development Department
applied for a grant in the amount of $2,591,227 from the U.S. Department
of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) in 2008 for Marshall, Tama and
Hardin Counties; and
WHEREAS HUD has awarded the City a Lead Hazard Control Grant as part of
the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 in the amount of
$2,591,227; and
WHEREAS Tama County finds that participation in the program will be
beneficial to Tama County residents to create lead safe housing.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS
FOR TAMA COUNTY, IOWA, AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1. Tama County approves the attached 28E Agreement with the
City of Marshalltown to participate in the lead hazard control program.
Section 2. This Resolution shall be in full force and effect from and
after its passage and adoption as by law required.
Roll call vote: Vest, Aye. Kendall, Aye. Wilkens, aye. Motion
carried. Resolution passed and adopted this 10th day of March, 2009.

Motion by Wilkens, seconded by Jordan to approve the claims for payment
as presented. All voted aye. Motion carried.
Chairman Vest adjourned the meeting at 10:38 a.m.
