Board of Supervisors Minutes
July 8, 2019

The Board met at 9:00 am in their meeting room with the Poweshiek County Board of Supervisors for a work session regarding the Tama-Poweshiek County Engineer Agreement.  No action taken.

The Tama County Board of Supervisors met at 9:44 a.m. July 8, 2019.  Present:  1st District Supervisor, Larry Vest; 2nd District Supervisor, Kendall Jordan and 3rd District Supervisor, Dan Anderson.

Motion by Anderson, seconded by Vest to approve the minutes of the July 1st regular meeting.   All voted aye.  Motion carried.

The Board met with Lyle Brehm, Tama County Engineer, to get a road projects report.

Katherine Ollendieck, Economic Development Director, was present to let the Supervisors know that the county’s Great Places re-designation failed.  She explained that in the letter she received were some areas the county needs to address.  We have two years until the next time the county can apply for designation again and she is confident that we can get that done.

Todd Apfel, Environmental Health Officer, was present to discuss a possible county ordinance for tanning facilities.  The State has been in charge of regulating and inspecting facilities with tanning beds and they are no longer doing so.  That leaves them unregulated unless the County decides to set an ordinance and take care of those duties.  Mr. Apfel was asked by the Board of Health to approach the Supervisors about this.  The Board will take this under advisement.  No action taken today.

Logan Roberts, Conservation Director, was present to give the Board an update on what has been going on at the county lake and park.

Motion by Vest, seconded by Anderson to re-appoint Lesa Haughey, Tama, to the Compensation Board as the Treasurer’s representative.  All voted aye.  Motion carried.

Motion by Vest, seconded by Anderson to approve the Sheriff’s Quarterly Report.  All voted aye.  Motion carried.

Motion by Anderson, seconded by Vest to approve the claims for payment as presented.  All voted aye.  Motion carried.

Chairman Jordan adjourned the meeting at 10:08 a.m.
