Tama County Public Health provides immunizations to all Tama County residents, birth through 18, who meet Vaccine for Children eligibility. 

Immunizations that are provided are:

• Recommended by the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP)
• Recommended by the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP)
• Required for a child to attend an Iowa daycare/pre-school, elementary, or secondary school

What are the Vaccine for Children eligibility guidelines?

Vaccine for Children eligible children birth through 18 years of age must fall into one of the following eligibility criteria:

• Medicaid-eligible
• American Indian/Alaskan Native
• Uninsured
• Underinsured

What vaccines are available at Tama County Public Health?

The following vaccines are available:

• Diphtheria, Tetanus, Acellular Pertussis
• Adult Tetanus-Diphtheria, anyone over 7 years old
• Polio
• Hepatitis B
• Haemophilus Influenzae Type B
• Measles, Mumps, Rubella
• Chicken pox
• Pneumococcal

What immunizations are required for my child to enter Day Care or School?

Day Care Law requires: Varicella (Chickenpox) Diphtheria, Tetanus, Pertussis Haemophilus Influenzae Type B Measles, Mumps, Rubella Polio Hepatitis B

School Law requires: Varicella (Chickenpox) Diphtheria Tetanus Pertussis Hepatitis B Measles, Mumps, Rubella Polio

When and where can I get my child immunized ?

Walk-Ins:

Although walk-in immunizations are available 8:00 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, we suggest you call (641) 484-4788 to be sure a Nurse is available.

Child Health Clinics:

Appointments for immunizations at Child Health Clinics can be made by calling:

First and Second Thursdays of each month - 8:30 – 3:30

What do I need to have to make an appointment?

In order to make a first appointment for a child, please have the child’s social security number as well as their previous shot records. Follow-up appointments will be made, as needed, at the end of your visit.

Is there a fee for the service/program?

There is no fee for services but dontions are accepted.
