Environmental Health Services
Radon Program
What is radon?
Radon is a cancer-causing,
radioactive gas. It may be a problem in your home and you don't even know it.
You can't see, smell or taste radon. In fact, the Surgeon General has warned
that radon is the second leading cause of lung cancer in the United States
today.
The American Medical
Association, the American Lung Association, the Surgeon General and others
confirm that radon is a leading environmental health-risk in homes today.
According to the EPA, Iowa has more above the recommended action level than any
other state.
What can you do about
radon?
Tama County Public Health & Home Care
urges you to test your home today. Radon comes from the natural
radioactive-breakdown of uranium in soil, rock, and water and gets into the air
we breathe.
January is National
Radon Awareness Month. Come to Tama County
Public Health & Home Care and pick up your Radon Test Kit. Testing
for radon is the only way to know if you and your family are at risk. For more
information on radon call Tama County Public Health & Home Care at
1-866-484-4788.
