The Tama County Conservation Board met in regular session on Wednesday, March 14, 2007, in the Nature Center library, Otter Creek Park.

 

Benda called the meeting to order at 7:05 p.m. Members present were: Adolphs, Benda, Little and Wiese. Also present: Etzel and Wise. [Note: In Anderson’s absence Little will serve as acting vice-chair.]

Minutes from the regular session of February 7, 2007, were read.  Moved by Adolphs, seconded Wiese to approve the minutes as read, carried. (All voting aye)

Reports and Correspondence. Staff /Work. Wise updated board members on work accomplished during February including beginning storm damage work, prepare beach ropes for placement, complete tiling of south loop camp area./ Workshops/Meetings Attended Staff have attended the Ioway Trail Meeting (February 14), and CCPOA Training (March 6). Upcoming meetings include ISAC (March 18- 20), IACCB Spring Conference (March 24), District 1 Meeting (March 27), Fun Nite for the Nature Center Fundraiser (March 31)./Fun Nite for the Nature Center Tickets will be coming to board members in the next few days. Kay Neumann, Deadham, IA, will be giving the program on “The Bald Eagle in Iowa”. She is a wildlife rehabilitator and Executive Director of SOAR (Saving Our Avian  Resources).

The Board reviewed preliminary concept ideas submitted by Janet Danek, designer for the Nature Center exhibits. Etzel reported the Exhibit Team would be meeting on March 21 to discuss the concepts and provide feedback to Danek.

The Board considered bids submitted to replace the existing furnace at the trailer residence at Otter Creek Park. The current furnace started blowing soot (heat exchange unit is out). The following bids were submitted:

After considerable discussion it was moved by Wiese, seconded Adolphs to purchase the Amana Counterflow, 70,000 btu, 93% unit from Ternus Electric for $1,750, carried. (All voting aye)

The Tama County Meal Reimbursement Policy, as approved recently by the Board of Supervisors, was discussed. The Board felt certain aspects of the policy were not adaptable to the Conservation Board program. It was moved by Little, seconded Adolphs that the policy as approved by the Supervisors not be accepted for the operations of the Conservation Board, carried. (All voting aye) [Note: Board members agree with the spirit of the policy and instructed Etzel to bring forward, at the April meeting, a policy which fits the operational schedule of the conservation board.]

After discussion of conservation topics of interest it was moved by Little, seconded Adolphs to adjourn, carried (All voting aye). Adjourned 8:20 p.m..
