The Tama County Early Childhood Iowa
(ECI) Area, formerly empowerment, was created after the Iowa Community Early Childhood Iowa Initiative was
established by a legislative mandate during the 1998 Iowa legislative
session. The purpose of this initiative
is to create a partnership between communities and state government with an
initial emphasis to improve the well being of families with young
children. The initiative calls for the
development of local community Early Childhood Iowa areas statewide. Through these areas, local citizens will be
enabled to lead collaborative efforts involving education, health and human
services programs on behalf of children, families and other citizens residing
in the area.
Empowering individuals
and their communities to achieve desired results for improving the quality of
life within communities was the purpose of creating the community Early Childhood Iowa
initiative. It is expected that the
Early Childhood Iowa of individuals will strengthen the individuals’ sense of
responsibility for their neighbors and promote partnerships in order for all to
succeed. The role of the Iowa
Early Childhood Iowa Board, the state and the local governments is to support and
facilitate growth of individual and community responsibility in place of the
directive role that the public has come to expect of government.
The purpose of our
Early Childhood Iowa Area is to ensure that children have a quality childcare
environment and to provide home visitation and parent education to families
with children 0 – 5 years of age so they are:
Healthy Children
Children Ready to Succeed
in School
In Secure and Nurturing
Families
In Secure and Nurturing Child Care Environments
