Preferred Contractor and Pumper Workshop

Lee Wiges, Environmental Health Officer from Tama County Public Health & Home Care, provided a Preferred Contractor and Pumper Workshop January
20th at the Otter Creek Nature Center.

In order for Contractors/Pumpers to be on the Public Health's Preferred Contractor list they must attend this workshop and provide proof of liability insurance.

Thirty-four people attended this workshop. Topics discussed were: septic tanks and types of different septic tanks, installation guidelines, accessory adaptations, distribution boxes, leach field failures, properly installed systems, Geo-Therm (Heat Pumps) including basic concepts, types of systems and system benefits, piping, recirculating fluids, grouting, sizing the system, vertical Well Holes, permits, contractor certification and well construction.

Vendors were on hand from Pella Precast Products, Advanced Drainage Systems, and Infiltrator Systems Inc., who gave an overview of products they had to offer.
