About Tama County

Tama County was established in 1843. It's home to 13 communities and over 17,000 residents. The County is administered by a three-member Board of Supervisors who are elected for four-year terms. Other elected officials include the Attorney, Auditor, Recorder, Sheriff, and Treasurer.

Wind up at the Salt & Pepper Shaker Gallery

The Traer Salt & Pepper Shaker Gallery features the enourmous salt and pepper shaker collection of long-time Traer resident, Ruth Rasmussen. The collection was purchased by the City of Traer in 2008 and are now on display at a museum gallery space near in downtown Traer. The collection includes over 15,000 sets of shakers and is the largest collection of publicly displayed shakers in the Midwest.
