Date: July 19, 2007
Regarding: Justice Assistance Grant Program
The Tama County Sheriff's Office made application to the JAG program for qualifying funds available to Tama County.
Requirements are that I must seek the Tama County Board of Supervisors approval through a board hearing prior to submitting the actual completed application. It is also requirement that public notice be made of my submission of the Grant application, which will be posted on the Tama County Sheriff's Office web site incase the general public would inquire about it.
The awarding amount of the JAG grant would be $10,341.00, and does not require any matching funds.
The benefit to the Sheriff Office being rewarded the Grant would aid this office to purchase equipment not budgeted for annually. This would allow this office to improve our ability with investigations,
communications, and surveillance. Items we would purchase from the funds: additional new computer equipment, software license, recording equipment for officers, officer training, replacement of weapons.
Previous Federal Grants have not been available to us since 2005.
Justice Assistance Grant funds would be used to purchase new mobile computers and software for deputies and put on a rotation for replacement as needed. Pocket recorders for the deputies, to utilize during interviews of victims, or suspects.
I am submitting this for the Tama County Board of Supervisors approval.
Respectfully
Dennis P. Kucera
