Motor
Vehicle Department
The Motor Vehicle Department handles
titling and licensing of all motor vehicles designed for road use.
Off-road vehicles (boats, snowmobiles, and all terrain vehicles are
in the Recorder's office).
Vehicle registration may be renewed
the month before the designated due month, which most generally is
your birth month, and the month following before it would be delinquent.
Penalty of 5% of license fee rounded to the nearest dollar with a
$5.00 minimum will be added on the first of each month when delinquent.
Title cost is $15.00, lein notation $10.00.
Tax
Department
The tax department is responsible
for collecting all property taxes, mobile home tax, special assessments,
and drainage tax; investing all county funds; apportioning all tax
dollars and sending to appropriate school, city, or other taxing body;
maintaining all bookkeeping functions and holding annual tax sale.
Taxes are due September and March
and become delinquent October 1st and April 1st. Your receipts are
mailed once a year in August. The tax year begins on July 1st and
ends June 30th. Penalty is 1½ % per month rounded to the nearest
dollar per tax receipt. A $4.00 costs per parcel will also be added
May 1st to delinquent taxes. Tax sale is the third Monday in June.
Drivers License
The issuance of all classes
of drivers license are done daily 8:00 - 4:00 M-F. The written tests
can be taken daily 8:00 - 3:30 M-F. Driving tests are scheduled on
Thursday only (appointments are recommended).
Drivers license can be renewed 30 days before and 60 days after your
birthday before a written test or driving test would be required.
